We are proud to announce the successful completion of the InterMediation Foundation Women Empowerment Programme for VVF Survivors, proudly sponsored by the Bank of Industry (BOI) and held in Abuja from April 22nd to April 25th. The programme was specifically organized to support women development, promote economic inclusion, and empower Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF) survivors with practical vocational and entrepreneurial skills that can help them rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence, and financial independence.

At InterMediation Foundation, we believe that empowering women is one of the most effective ways to strengthen families, transform communities, and promote sustainable development. This initiative was designed not only to provide skills acquisition opportunities, but also to restore hope, confidence, independence, and economic stability among women who have faced difficult health and social challenges as VVF survivors.

The four-day intensive empowerment programme brought together women from different communities in Abuja and provided them with 100% practical, hands-on training in the production of high-demand household and personal care products. Participants received professional training in the production of:

• Body Spray
• Liquid Soap
• Izal Disinfectant
• Toilet Cleaner
• Hypo (Bleach)
• Air Freshener
• Vaseline

The training sessions combined practical demonstrations, interactive workshops, and entrepreneurial guidance to ensure that participants gained both technical production knowledge and business-startup skills. Every participant actively engaged in the product-making process, learning the correct formulations, measurements, mixing procedures, safety practices, packaging methods, and basic marketing strategies needed to successfully establish and manage small-scale businesses.

One of the most impactful highlights of the programme was the distribution of start-up kits to all participants at the end of the training. Each beneficiary returned home with essential materials and tools needed to begin production immediately, ensuring that the knowledge gained during the programme can be practically applied without delay.

The provision of start-up kits reflects our commitment to sustainable empowerment. We understand that skill acquisition alone is often not enough, especially for vulnerable women and VVF survivors who may face financial limitations. By providing participants with practical support and start-up resources, we are helping to bridge the gap between learning and economic independence.

Throughout the programme, participants demonstrated remarkable resilience, enthusiasm, and determination. The atmosphere during the sessions reflected hope, courage, unity, and transformation, as women embraced the opportunity to learn valuable income-generating skills capable of improving their livelihoods and supporting their families.

As an organization committed to social impact and community development, we recognize the unique challenges many VVF survivors face, including social stigma, emotional trauma, economic hardship, and limited access to opportunities. This empowerment programme was therefore carefully designed to create an environment of encouragement, inclusion, healing, and support while equipping participants with practical tools for financial self-reliance.

Beyond vocational training, the programme also emphasized entrepreneurship development, confidence-building, and long-term sustainability. Participants were encouraged to view the programme as a pathway toward self-employment, business ownership, and economic empowerment. Many beneficiaries expressed excitement and renewed confidence about starting their own businesses using the skills and start-up kits provided during the programme.
